My name's Megan and I love movement.

My story

While studying for my bachelor of fine arts in theater, I felt the therapeutic benefits of moving freely. There was something strangely cathartic about embodying specific movement patterns for a character. It wasn’t escapism, quite the opposite, as controlled movement requires a meditative focus. It was a combination of this focus and character embodiment that gave birth to my appreciation for body conditioning.

In order for movement to having a freeing feeling, it has to be painless. The problem with that is we live in our bodies and move unconsciously, remaining completely unaware of our (often) lazy, and detrimental movement patterns. As a Stott certified Pilates instructor, I seek to give people the opportunity to experience painless movement.

Often referred to as ‘contrology,’ Pilates is the study and practice of being in control of how our body moves. The practice is a system of exercises that challenge your alignment, stability and agility to create body awareness and core strength. I teach people the Pilates regimen both at a physical therapy clinic and online and specialize in post recovery. After regaining mobility, the therapy is complete, but that’s when it’s time to gain body awareness to avoid re-injury.

Body awareness is found through the practice of Pilates because of its heavy focus on alignment and form and that’s where I come in! Without having someone to correct, pinch and poke you into proper execution, you have no idea if your movement patterns are anatomically correct.

Often times, people who begin Pilates with me are amazed at how often they would subconsciously compensate, causing them to move out of alignment, increasing their chances of further injury. Through our practice together, I get you to feel the sensations of working within alignment so that you can stay in control of your body when practicing any physical activity.
